Maximum entropy based non-negative optoacoustic tomographic image reconstruction

چکیده
Optoacoustic (photoacoustic) tomography reconstructs maps of the initial pressure rise induced by the absorption of light pulses in tissue. In practice, due to inaccurate assumptions in the forward model employed, noise and other experimental factors, the images often contain errors, occasionally manifested as negative values. We present optoacoustic tomography based on an entropy maximization algorithm that uses logarithmic regularization as a potent method for imparting non-negative image reconstruction. We experimentally investigate the performance achieved by the entropy maximization scheme on phantoms and in vivo samples. The findings demonstrate that the proposed scheme reconstructs physically relevant image values devoid of unwanted negative contrast, thus improving quantitative imaging performance.

Reconstruction of tomographic images from sparse data sets by a new finite element maximum entropy approach.
A new algorithm for the reconstruction of tomographic images from sparse data sets is presented. A finite element technique was devised to solve the constrained optimization problem which resulted from the analysis using the maximum entropy formalism. The improvement in reconstruction image quality over conventional techniques is illustrated by several examples.

In tomographic optoacoustic imaging, multiple parameters related to both light and ultrasound propagation characteristics of the medium need to be adequately selected in order to accurately recover maps of local optical absorbance. Ionospheric tomography is a method to investigate the ionospheric electron density in two or three dimensions. In this study, the function-based tomographic technique has been used for regional reconstruction of a 3D tomographic model of the ionospheric electron density using the GPS measurements of the Iranian Permanent GPS Network. Two-dimensional Haar wavelets and empirical orthogonal functi...

Tomographic reconstruction from noisy projections do not yield adequate results. Mathematically, this tomographic reconstruction represents an ill-imposed problem due to information missing caused from the presence of noise. Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) or Bayesian reconstruction methods offer possibilities to improve the image quality as compared with analytical methods in particular by introduc...
